A trip to Europe was on the horizon. My lady asked me to make her a moto jacket for our expedition, and that reignited my love for making things out of leather. One thing led to another, and I found myself continuing to work with leather through various personal and contract projects thereafter.

For every project, I accumulated some leftover leather pieces that I didn't have the heart to throw out. I don't know why, maybe because it's a natural material and I should pay respect to the animal. Maybe I just liked looking at the growing pile of angular black things leftover every time I cut into a hide. Regardless of the reason, my little bag of scraps didn't stay little for very long. 

I found myself in a similar situation with my old snowboard jacket. I made a working prototype coat for my Japow trip last year and my Burton coat that I bought the year I moved to Whistler, just hung, collecting dust, in my closet. I knew it was just taking up space but I couldn't bring myself to throw it out. 

I liked all of the stuff I was reading/seeing on upcycled fashion, and found myself thinking it would be dope to do something similar with all of the leather scraps I had accumulated. I knew a jacket would make the most sense and my mind landed on a duffle style. The large body panels and oversized nature would accent all of the mismatching panels, while still contributing to an overall cohesive look.

Took another look through my jackets one day, and found myself examining my old Burton coat again...
